Madona's Forbes Top Earnining Acts

Forbes magazine issued its list of the year’s top-earning musicians … their year being June to June, that is. And it should come as no surprise that Madonna tops the cash heap.

What is (mildly) unexpected is just how much wealthier Madge has become. As Forbes reports, the Material Mom has garnered roughly $40-$50 million annually since 2002. Last year, however, she more than doubled that tally, rising to $110 million.

Céline Dion almost beat her, however. The chest-beating French-Canadian songbird raked in a cool $100 mil herself last year.Beyoncé landed in third, with $87 million.

The list was compiled by assessing earnings from album sales, touring, publishing and endorsement deals, with Billboard, Pollstar and Nielsen SoundScancited as sources.

Curious about the rest? Forbes’ Top-Earning Musicians, June 2008 — June 2009
1. Madonna, $110 million
2. Céline Dion, $100 million
3. Beyoncé, $87 million
4. Bruce Springsteen, $70 million
5. Kenny Chesney, $65 million
6. Rascal Flatts, $60 million
6. Coldplay, $60 million
6. AC/DC, $60 million
9. Eagles, $55 million
10. Toby Keith, $52 million
11. Bon Jovi, $50 million
12. Dave Matthews Band, $45 million

Madonna's adopted daughter leaves Malawi

Madonna's new daughter has flown out of her native Malawi on a private jet headed for London, an airport employee and a person familiar with Madonna's adoption proceedings in this southern African country said Saturday.
The airport employee, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter, said 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James left late Friday headed to London, with a stop in neighboring South Africa. The girl, the second child Madonna has adopted from Malawi, was reportedly accompanied on the flight by a nanny, a child nurse and a third aide.
The person familiar with the adoption, who also was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said the girl known as Mercy should have reached London on Saturday morning. Madonna has homes in England and in the United States.
Malawi's highest court had granted the adoption June 12, overturning an April lower court ruling that Madonna had not spent enough time in Malawi to be given a child.
The high court said the first judge had imposed too narrow a definition of residency, and lauded Madonna for her work with children in a poor country where half a million have lost a parent to AIDS.
Madonna's Raising Malawi, a charity founded in 2006, helps feed, educate and provide medical care for some of Malawi's orphans.
Madonna adopted a son, David, from Malawi last year.
Children's welfare groups had expressed concern that rules meant to protect children were being bent because of Madonna's celebrity, and perhaps out of gratitude for what she has done for Malawi.
Madonna met Mercy in 2006 at Kondanani Children's Village, an orphanage in Bvumbwe, just south of Blantyre. It was the same year she began the process of adopting David, whom she found at another orphanage in central Malawi.
The girl's 18-year-old mother was unmarried and died soon after she gave birth. Since Madonna moved to adopt the girl, a dispute has arisen between the girl's maternal relatives, who agreed to the adoption, and a man who says he is the father and wants to care for the girl himself, but acknowledged he had never seen Mercy.
Madonna first traveled to Malawi in 2006 while filming a documentary on its devastating poverty and AIDS crisis.
In addition to David, the 50-year-old Madonna has two other children: Lourdes, 12, and Rocco, 8.
Reports that Madonna would in the next few days visit her charity's projects in Malawi could not be confirmed.

Another Change On the S & S Setlist

The MadonnaTribe team has heard some more exclusive tidbits coming from the rehearsals of Madonna's Sticky and Sweet Tour 2009.
After hearing and reporting first that Holiday will be replacing Heartbeat and a rocky version of Dress You Up, played on a guitar riff calling to mind The Knack's song "My Sharona", will take the place of Borderline in the Old School part of the show we heard that there's another surprising song change in the show.
This time the surprising news is that a dance version of the 1998 hit single Frozen is being rehearsed in the place of the "not so loved by fans" "Rock guitar version" of Hung Up!
Frozen, written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard has already been played twice live on Madonna tours: in 2001's Drowned World Tour and in 2004's re-Invention Tour.

Madonna Lands In London

Changed In Sticky And Sweet

The Sticky and Sweet tour is less than two weeks away and we've learned that everyone is working hard on the rehearsals.
A few weeks ago, MadonnaTribe.com exclusively and for the first time reported that "Holiday" and "Dress You Up" are going to be two of the new songs in the 2009 setlist. Today we have heard more related news.
As previously reported a rock version of "Dress You Up" replaces "Borderline". The new arrangement keeps elements sampled from the original version but it's played on a rock track that recalls a lot The Knack's classic song "My Sharona".
On the other hand, "Holiday" that replaces "Heartbeat", contains sampled elements of "Everybody" and the new song "Celebrate". We've been told that the song is not such a spectacular reinvention and it's being rehearsed at the moment with a vocoder effect on Madonna's voice.

Madonna to shoot her new movie in January

Italian leading newspaper la Repubblica had a nice chat with Madonna on the phone from New York City to talk about the release of "Sacro e Profano" which hits Italian cinemas today. When Madonna answered the phone she had just finished rehearsing for the 2009 leg of her Sticky & Sweet Tour and asked someone to bring her a towel. She apologised for the time lap - it was not morning yet in Italy at the time journalist Giuseppe Videtti was asked to call her - and said she had "an exhausting day, but now let's talk about cinema".
"Filth and Wisdom" is distributed in Italy by Sacher Films, a production and distribution company focusing on quality cinema, led and founded by celebrated director Nanni Moretti. Moretti's name did not ring any bell in Madonna's head, though. "Nanni who?" she asked, and had the journalist spell the director's surname. But she admits she has never heard of him. "I understand that I should be flattered by his interest," she said cautiously. "For me it is already a success that "Filth and Wisdom" was theatrically released in several European countries. It means that according to the public who knew Fellini and the nouvelle vague my movie is not really garbage bin material."
Videtti also asked Madonna about her relationship with the art of Federico Fellini. "In 1993 I was looking for a director for the "Rain" videoclip and immediately thought of him and wrote him a letter," Madonna recalls. "Well, it was a song from the "Erotica" album, maybe this embarrassed the maestro a little bit", Videtti points out. "Quite the contrary," Madonna reckons. "He answered with a nice letter which was a very courteous refusal. Later on I learnt that he was ill at the time and in fact it would have died a few months later. His message written with his unmistakable handwriting is framed here in the living room of my New York house, side-by-side with the Tamara De Lempicka paintings.
"Did the fact of having been for many years married with a director somehow trigger your decision to direct a movie yourself?" "Guy Ritchie is not the only cinema-man in my life," Madonna, who was married to Sean Penn and had a relationship with Warren Beatty, answers. "Directors are visionary artists. I always felt envy and attraction for them. To write and produce a film is an extraordinary challenge. In order to succeed you need to unleash your creativity. For someone like me who for a quarter of a century was on and off with the world of cinema, it was sort of a natural progression. Guy gave me an invaluable tip: trust your intuition."
"Someone said that, as an actress, you were a thorn in the side of the directors you worked with. It was claimed that you has the entire "Desperately Seeking Susan" screenplay re-written to match your pop star iconic image." "Now I understand that it is not pleasant when someone interferes with your work. If you envision a specific project you want to achieve it in your own way. The story in "Filth and Wisdom" was buzzing in my head for a while. It reflects some of my experiences, but there's more in it. Originally it was meant to be a short film, born from the ideas I had for the H&M commercial. There is the music business in it, that I know very well, but the characters were also inspired by people I actually met along the way, like the lap -ancer or the pharmacist who dreams of doing volunteer in Africa, the two girls who share the apartment with AK."
"Someone said that it was easy for you to become a director with no actual knowledge of what it really is about, but taking advantage of your pop idol status." "I'm not a film trainee. I have made documentaries about life on the road and more recently "I Am Because We Are. My passion for cinema is old but not remote. As a child I was not attracted by the images on the big screen, but when I went to University in Michigan, I discovered Fellini, Pasolini, Visconti, René Clair and the nouvelle vague of Godard. For me it was as the second coming of Jesus Christ. Do you know what present I gave to my friends for Christmas? A private viewing of "Rocco and His Brothers" in my house. If I were to direct the remake of a classic, I'd choose Visconti's masterpiece. And I'd ask Dolce and Gabbana to design the costumes."
"Your next priority is the Summer tour. When should we expect your second experience as a director?" "I've got a top secret script ready. We'll do casting this coming Fall and if all goes well - which is, if I manage to find the money to produce it - I'll start shooting in January". "Pop icon, actress, art collector, now film maker. Isn't it a risk for an artist like you to venture into new territories?" "Risk is like amniotic fluid for an artist. I doesn't scare me, it stimulates me. At 50 years I don't want to stay closed in a cage. Neither to remain bottled like mineral water. The label that you put on me no longer matches the product? It's your business not mine".

MADONNA ADOPTS MERCY!

Malawi's Supreme Court on Friday overturned a lower court and allowed U.S. pop star Madonna to adopt a second child from the country.

Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo said Madonna had shown an interest in helping Malawi orphans and that 4-year-old Mercy James would have a better life with the star. He said a lower court had erred in turning down the adoption request because Madonna was not resident in Malawi.

Court To Rule On Madonna Adoption Today

Malawi’s highest court will announce today whether US pop star Madonna can adopt a second child from the African country.
Malawi’s High Court ruled in April Madonna could not adopt four-year-old Mercy James because she was not a resident of Malawi. The singer appealed.
Supreme Court spokesman Joseph Chigona told Reuters that the announcement would be made at 0700 GMT on Friday (5.00pm AEST).
Malawi’s Government came under fire after Madonna adopted a 13-month-old child, David Banda, in 2006. Critics accused the Government of giving Madonna special treatment by skirting laws that ban non-residents from adopting children. The Government has supported Madonna’s attempt to adopt Mercy, saying she is a worthy mother.
An AIDS epidemic in Malawi has orphaned more than 1 million children and Madonna has set up a charity for children there. In her ruling in April, High Court Judge Esimie Chombo warned against celebrity adoptions, saying they could lead to child trafficking.

Poland Catholics Oppose Madonna's Concert

WARSAW, Poland, June 10 (UPI) -- Catholics are urging the Polish government and organizers to cancel U.S. pop star Madonna's concert scheduled for Aug. 15, the Assumption of Mary feast.

Marian Brudzynski, member of the Mazowiecki regional assembly, Wednesday said Madonna "cannot sing" on the religious feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary and announced a protest committee is being organized to stop the concert.

Brudzynski, a former member of the conservative League of Polish Families party, said Catholics will do all in their power to prevent the concert from taking place. The protest committee plans to ask Interior Minister Grzegorz Schetyna to cancel the concert, he said.

Brudzynski said if they fail to stop Madonna's concert they will stage a massive picket outside and added, "We want to stifle Madonna," Poland's thenews.pl Web site reported.

Krzysztof Zagozda, of the Catholic Society organization, said the concert would hurt Poles' religious sentiment as Madonna's performances are anti-Christian.

Stanislaw Malkowski, former Warsaw Solidarity union's chaplain, said the Catholic church and the Polish nation should protest loudly against the Madonna concert.
