Madona's Forbes Top Earnining Acts

Forbes magazine issued its list of the year’s top-earning musicians … their year being June to June, that is. And it should come as no surprise that Madonna tops the cash heap.

What is (mildly) unexpected is just how much wealthier Madge has become. As Forbes reports, the Material Mom has garnered roughly $40-$50 million annually since 2002. Last year, however, she more than doubled that tally, rising to $110 million.

Céline Dion almost beat her, however. The chest-beating French-Canadian songbird raked in a cool $100 mil herself last year.Beyoncé landed in third, with $87 million.

The list was compiled by assessing earnings from album sales, touring, publishing and endorsement deals, with Billboard, Pollstar and Nielsen SoundScancited as sources.

Curious about the rest? Forbes’ Top-Earning Musicians, June 2008 — June 2009
1. Madonna, $110 million
2. Céline Dion, $100 million
3. Beyoncé, $87 million
4. Bruce Springsteen, $70 million
5. Kenny Chesney, $65 million
6. Rascal Flatts, $60 million
6. Coldplay, $60 million
6. AC/DC, $60 million
9. Eagles, $55 million
10. Toby Keith, $52 million
11. Bon Jovi, $50 million
12. Dave Matthews Band, $45 million

Jusin To Join Madonna on Isreal Show

Israeli leading newspaper "Yediot Ah'Haronot" broke the news today that Madonna will not be the only mega star to travel to Israel in September. The Queen of Pop will be in Tel Aviv to wrap her Sticky & Sweet Tour with two sold out nights at the Yehoshua Gardens on September 1st and 2nd. And according to the newspaper another mega star will be her special guest for a Kabbalah trip to the holy land, being no other than Justin Timberlake. It will be Justin's first time in Israel, and sources in the show's production team say that there might be a surprise guest appearance on the stage, too. The article also mentions that Justin have been studying Kabbalah with Madonna in the London Centre for some time now.

Madonna's adopted daughter leaves Malawi

Madonna's new daughter has flown out of her native Malawi on a private jet headed for London, an airport employee and a person familiar with Madonna's adoption proceedings in this southern African country said Saturday.
The airport employee, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter, said 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James left late Friday headed to London, with a stop in neighboring South Africa. The girl, the second child Madonna has adopted from Malawi, was reportedly accompanied on the flight by a nanny, a child nurse and a third aide.
The person familiar with the adoption, who also was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said the girl known as Mercy should have reached London on Saturday morning. Madonna has homes in England and in the United States.
Malawi's highest court had granted the adoption June 12, overturning an April lower court ruling that Madonna had not spent enough time in Malawi to be given a child.
The high court said the first judge had imposed too narrow a definition of residency, and lauded Madonna for her work with children in a poor country where half a million have lost a parent to AIDS.
Madonna's Raising Malawi, a charity founded in 2006, helps feed, educate and provide medical care for some of Malawi's orphans.
Madonna adopted a son, David, from Malawi last year.
Children's welfare groups had expressed concern that rules meant to protect children were being bent because of Madonna's celebrity, and perhaps out of gratitude for what she has done for Malawi.
Madonna met Mercy in 2006 at Kondanani Children's Village, an orphanage in Bvumbwe, just south of Blantyre. It was the same year she began the process of adopting David, whom she found at another orphanage in central Malawi.
The girl's 18-year-old mother was unmarried and died soon after she gave birth. Since Madonna moved to adopt the girl, a dispute has arisen between the girl's maternal relatives, who agreed to the adoption, and a man who says he is the father and wants to care for the girl himself, but acknowledged he had never seen Mercy.
Madonna first traveled to Malawi in 2006 while filming a documentary on its devastating poverty and AIDS crisis.
In addition to David, the 50-year-old Madonna has two other children: Lourdes, 12, and Rocco, 8.
Reports that Madonna would in the next few days visit her charity's projects in Malawi could not be confirmed.

Another Change On the S & S Setlist

The MadonnaTribe team has heard some more exclusive tidbits coming from the rehearsals of Madonna's Sticky and Sweet Tour 2009.
After hearing and reporting first that Holiday will be replacing Heartbeat and a rocky version of Dress You Up, played on a guitar riff calling to mind The Knack's song "My Sharona", will take the place of Borderline in the Old School part of the show we heard that there's another surprising song change in the show.
This time the surprising news is that a dance version of the 1998 hit single Frozen is being rehearsed in the place of the "not so loved by fans" "Rock guitar version" of Hung Up!
Frozen, written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard has already been played twice live on Madonna tours: in 2001's Drowned World Tour and in 2004's re-Invention Tour.

Madonna Lands In London

Changed In Sticky And Sweet

The Sticky and Sweet tour is less than two weeks away and we've learned that everyone is working hard on the rehearsals.
A few weeks ago, MadonnaTribe.com exclusively and for the first time reported that "Holiday" and "Dress You Up" are going to be two of the new songs in the 2009 setlist. Today we have heard more related news.
As previously reported a rock version of "Dress You Up" replaces "Borderline". The new arrangement keeps elements sampled from the original version but it's played on a rock track that recalls a lot The Knack's classic song "My Sharona".
On the other hand, "Holiday" that replaces "Heartbeat", contains sampled elements of "Everybody" and the new song "Celebrate". We've been told that the song is not such a spectacular reinvention and it's being rehearsed at the moment with a vocoder effect on Madonna's voice.

Madonna to shoot her new movie in January

Italian leading newspaper la Repubblica had a nice chat with Madonna on the phone from New York City to talk about the release of "Sacro e Profano" which hits Italian cinemas today. When Madonna answered the phone she had just finished rehearsing for the 2009 leg of her Sticky & Sweet Tour and asked someone to bring her a towel. She apologised for the time lap - it was not morning yet in Italy at the time journalist Giuseppe Videtti was asked to call her - and said she had "an exhausting day, but now let's talk about cinema".
"Filth and Wisdom" is distributed in Italy by Sacher Films, a production and distribution company focusing on quality cinema, led and founded by celebrated director Nanni Moretti. Moretti's name did not ring any bell in Madonna's head, though. "Nanni who?" she asked, and had the journalist spell the director's surname. But she admits she has never heard of him. "I understand that I should be flattered by his interest," she said cautiously. "For me it is already a success that "Filth and Wisdom" was theatrically released in several European countries. It means that according to the public who knew Fellini and the nouvelle vague my movie is not really garbage bin material."
Videtti also asked Madonna about her relationship with the art of Federico Fellini. "In 1993 I was looking for a director for the "Rain" videoclip and immediately thought of him and wrote him a letter," Madonna recalls. "Well, it was a song from the "Erotica" album, maybe this embarrassed the maestro a little bit", Videtti points out. "Quite the contrary," Madonna reckons. "He answered with a nice letter which was a very courteous refusal. Later on I learnt that he was ill at the time and in fact it would have died a few months later. His message written with his unmistakable handwriting is framed here in the living room of my New York house, side-by-side with the Tamara De Lempicka paintings.
"Did the fact of having been for many years married with a director somehow trigger your decision to direct a movie yourself?" "Guy Ritchie is not the only cinema-man in my life," Madonna, who was married to Sean Penn and had a relationship with Warren Beatty, answers. "Directors are visionary artists. I always felt envy and attraction for them. To write and produce a film is an extraordinary challenge. In order to succeed you need to unleash your creativity. For someone like me who for a quarter of a century was on and off with the world of cinema, it was sort of a natural progression. Guy gave me an invaluable tip: trust your intuition."
"Someone said that, as an actress, you were a thorn in the side of the directors you worked with. It was claimed that you has the entire "Desperately Seeking Susan" screenplay re-written to match your pop star iconic image." "Now I understand that it is not pleasant when someone interferes with your work. If you envision a specific project you want to achieve it in your own way. The story in "Filth and Wisdom" was buzzing in my head for a while. It reflects some of my experiences, but there's more in it. Originally it was meant to be a short film, born from the ideas I had for the H&M commercial. There is the music business in it, that I know very well, but the characters were also inspired by people I actually met along the way, like the lap -ancer or the pharmacist who dreams of doing volunteer in Africa, the two girls who share the apartment with AK."
"Someone said that it was easy for you to become a director with no actual knowledge of what it really is about, but taking advantage of your pop idol status." "I'm not a film trainee. I have made documentaries about life on the road and more recently "I Am Because We Are. My passion for cinema is old but not remote. As a child I was not attracted by the images on the big screen, but when I went to University in Michigan, I discovered Fellini, Pasolini, Visconti, René Clair and the nouvelle vague of Godard. For me it was as the second coming of Jesus Christ. Do you know what present I gave to my friends for Christmas? A private viewing of "Rocco and His Brothers" in my house. If I were to direct the remake of a classic, I'd choose Visconti's masterpiece. And I'd ask Dolce and Gabbana to design the costumes."
"Your next priority is the Summer tour. When should we expect your second experience as a director?" "I've got a top secret script ready. We'll do casting this coming Fall and if all goes well - which is, if I manage to find the money to produce it - I'll start shooting in January". "Pop icon, actress, art collector, now film maker. Isn't it a risk for an artist like you to venture into new territories?" "Risk is like amniotic fluid for an artist. I doesn't scare me, it stimulates me. At 50 years I don't want to stay closed in a cage. Neither to remain bottled like mineral water. The label that you put on me no longer matches the product? It's your business not mine".

MADONNA ADOPTS MERCY!

Malawi's Supreme Court on Friday overturned a lower court and allowed U.S. pop star Madonna to adopt a second child from the country.

Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo said Madonna had shown an interest in helping Malawi orphans and that 4-year-old Mercy James would have a better life with the star. He said a lower court had erred in turning down the adoption request because Madonna was not resident in Malawi.

Court To Rule On Madonna Adoption Today

Malawi’s highest court will announce today whether US pop star Madonna can adopt a second child from the African country.
Malawi’s High Court ruled in April Madonna could not adopt four-year-old Mercy James because she was not a resident of Malawi. The singer appealed.
Supreme Court spokesman Joseph Chigona told Reuters that the announcement would be made at 0700 GMT on Friday (5.00pm AEST).
Malawi’s Government came under fire after Madonna adopted a 13-month-old child, David Banda, in 2006. Critics accused the Government of giving Madonna special treatment by skirting laws that ban non-residents from adopting children. The Government has supported Madonna’s attempt to adopt Mercy, saying she is a worthy mother.
An AIDS epidemic in Malawi has orphaned more than 1 million children and Madonna has set up a charity for children there. In her ruling in April, High Court Judge Esimie Chombo warned against celebrity adoptions, saying they could lead to child trafficking.

Poland Catholics Oppose Madonna's Concert

WARSAW, Poland, June 10 (UPI) -- Catholics are urging the Polish government and organizers to cancel U.S. pop star Madonna's concert scheduled for Aug. 15, the Assumption of Mary feast.

Marian Brudzynski, member of the Mazowiecki regional assembly, Wednesday said Madonna "cannot sing" on the religious feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary and announced a protest committee is being organized to stop the concert.

Brudzynski, a former member of the conservative League of Polish Families party, said Catholics will do all in their power to prevent the concert from taking place. The protest committee plans to ask Interior Minister Grzegorz Schetyna to cancel the concert, he said.

Brudzynski said if they fail to stop Madonna's concert they will stage a massive picket outside and added, "We want to stifle Madonna," Poland's thenews.pl Web site reported.

Krzysztof Zagozda, of the Catholic Society organization, said the concert would hurt Poles' religious sentiment as Madonna's performances are anti-Christian.

Stanislaw Malkowski, former Warsaw Solidarity union's chaplain, said the Catholic church and the Polish nation should protest loudly against the Madonna concert.

Mirwais on some Madonna's unreleased tracks

Mirwais is in the June issue of French gay magazine Tetu and he talks about Madonna saying that they still have 4 or 5 songs to make together that did not fit in the concept of "Hard Candy" including a superb folk one he likes very much.
Mirwais says that after producing Madonna he refused to produce J-Lo and many others because as he puts it "Once you've worked with the best there's no use to downgrade".

TITLE OF NEW TRACK CORRECTED

Following today's report by Attitude magazine about the titles of new Madonna tracks, we have heard the buzz that there isn't actually a song titled "I'm Sorry" but that's just something Madonna says in the song that is at the moment called "Broken". The other new song by Oakenfold has been correctly reported as being titled "Celebrate" but it is not a rework of the classic "Holiday". It is indeed a new party song. But we heard that "Celebrate" and "Holiday" will be indeed mashed together along with "Everybody" in a brand new number of the Sticky And Sweet tour debuting in London on July 4th. This medley is supposed to replace "Heartbeat" in the setlist while a Rock version of "Dress You Up", as previously reported here, is rehearsed as a replacement of "Bordeline" in the show.

TITLES OF OAKENFOLD TRACKS REVEALED

Nobody else knows about this (well aside from Paul Oakenfold, Madonna, some studio people, her manager, friends, Lourdes, Rocco, David and several hundread nannies) but we can exclusively reveal the name of the new songs that Paul Oakenfold has recorded with her royal highness, all time queen of the pop fiefdom and snout rubberer of the puffed up and self righteous in the poop (ie Madonna). We just got off the blower with legendary superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold for a little interview we will be running in our July issue out at the end of June in our nightlife section. Paul is doing his amazing thing all over the world and has been Djing for the Madonna tour of last year which returns to London on Pride day July 4th before going to Manchester and then heading out into the wider world. So taken with the Oakenfold was she that she invited him into the studio to work on some new tracks for possible inclusion on Madonna’s highly anticipated new Greatest Hits album due for release sometime this year. Paul said Madonna was highly professional, he learned a lot and that the new tracks are ‘lyrically classic Madonna with an edgy modern sound’. ‘Oooh’ we gasped, as we help the phone on a cord under our chin, and whipped up an omelette with the other hand, in a Thelma and Louise serving omelettes in a Texas Diner kind of way. He told us the tracks were sitting right there next to him and he told us what they are called. He didn’t know which ones would be the Greatest Hits CD and didn’t know when it would be out, though he imagined the run up to Christmas ‘when most greatest hits come out’. Our other pixie sources have told us that it may well be before that (ie Madonna wrote in a fan newsletter that it would be spring). So, the song titles are… (in no order)
‘Broken’ ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘Celebrate’.
So there we are. We don’t know what this says about our glorious leader’s emotional state – the first two we decided were about her sadness at splitting from Guy but then we thought maybe she is saying ‘celebrate my freedom, I’m sorry I waited so long and I’ve broken the bed with Jesus’. But who knows. We are hovering our hands over our crystal balls in a mystical manner and predict that the album may well just be called MADONNA CELEBRATE. But that is just a guess, because we’re slightly OCD. Yay.

Madonna in New York (May 16 2009)

Source: All About Madonna

Madonna Insists: No 'Wedding' With Jesus

Madonna has denied going through any kind of 'committment ceremony' with her Brazilian model lover Jesus Luz - despite speculation after she emerged from a Kabbalah meeting at the weekend dressed in white,
Both the singer, 50, and her 22-year-old boyfriend, were spotted emerging from the New York centre for her religion, dressed head to toe in white.
However, Madonna was overheard saying: “Why are the photographers saying congratulations to me?”
Previously, Jesus' dad Luiz Heitor Pinto da Luz had been blabbing that the megastar was set to pledge herself to his model son in some kind of show before religious leaders.
But Madge's spokeswoman has slammed the claims. She said: "This is completely and totally not true."
It's thought the pair were just attending a normal Kabbalah Sabbath service.

Paul Oakenfold: Madonna Songs "Cutting Edge"

Paul Oakenfold has described the new material he has recorded with Madonna as 'cutting edge sounds combined with classic Madonna'. The pair spent a week together in the studio last month producing songs for the 'Miles Away' singer's upcoming greatest hits package. Oakenfold confirmed that the new material will be previewed when he opens for Madonna on the second leg of her 'Sticky And Sweet' world tour, which kicks off in London on July 4. The DJ will also play at the Wireless Festival before supporting Madonna on European dates in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Russia and Eastern Europe.

STICKY AND SWEET SETLIST ADDITIONS

The extension of the Madonna tour is about to start in less than two months and MadonnaTribe reports a few things buzzing around. Rehearsals are planned to take place in New York and starting at the beginning of June. They will approximately go on for a month before flying to London for the premiere on July 4th.
As for the changes in the Sticky & Sweet set list a couple of beloved old classics will be replacing two songs of the 2008 line-up. The songs considered at the moment are the 1983 First Album classic hit Holiday, making its comeback in a Madonna tour and Dress You Up, the old fan favourite from Like A Virgin!
The inclusion of such classic songs will surely convince the people who were unsure about this tour extension that Madonna is once again trying something new, by strengthening her already successful show of 2008, reinventing it by adding more fan favourite oldies but goodies!

Madonna Turns to Psychic for Help

Madonna is being advised by a psychic called Mama Love. The 50-year-old singer - who was left devastated when her efforts to give four-year-old Malawian Mercy James a home were rejected earlier this year - turned to the medium in an effort to discover why her adoption bid failed.
A source said: "Madonna has turned to Mama Love before and knows she gets answers and advice she needs from her. Mama told her to take time out and cool down. It's unlikely the adoption of Mercy will go ahead now. She advised Madonna to slow down and let her spiritual side rise up." The psychic is believed to have told Madonna - who raises three children, daughter Lourdes, 12, eight-year-old Rocco and three-year-old David Banda - not to try adopting another child for the next two years.
The source added to Britain's Heat magazine: "Mama told her, 'You won't get the adoption you are looking for because the spirit is trying to guide you to a higher maternal status. Follow my advice and you will become Mama of the world.' " Mama Love has also told the singer to set up "compassion centres" to help those less fortunate than herself.

Madonna shuns the sun to stay young

London, May 13 : Pop queen Madonna keeps out of the sun to stay young, says a leading expert.

Dr Fredric Brandt, the self-styled "Baron of Botox", had advised the Material Girl to stay away from sun to preserve her youthful looks.

However, he refuses to confirm whether the 50-year-old songtress had the anti-wrinkle injections.

"Madonna is my client. She's got great skin and she's very disciplined," the Daily Star quoted him as saying on US telly show The Insider.

"She listens to me about staying out of the sun. But I will not tell you what she does," he added.

NEW CLIP OF REVOLVER

MADONNA COMMITS TO JESUS

Madonna and her lover Jesus Luz are to seal their relationship at a Kabbalah "commitment ceremony", it has been claimed.
The pop icon, who was divorced from Guy Ritchie last year, has been dating the 22-year-old Brazilian model for much of 2009.
During her ill-fated recent adoption attempt of an African child, the pair were said to have split-up, a claim which has now been dismissed.
"They are totally besotted with each other and he's really helped Madonna through this tough time", said a source.
"It wasn't that the relationship went off the boil, it was more a matter of Madonna wanting to concentrate on her adoption bid of Mercy and they wanted to keep a low profile while that became the main focus.
"Madonna was devastated when the adoption was rejected the first time but now she wants to lavish some attention on Jesus and she's keen to make sure they have a solid relationship for all the children's sakes."
Last week, a Malawian judge adjourned the appeal into her bid to adopt four-year-old Mercy James.

STICKY AND SWEET IN ISRAEL

Madonna's 'Sticky and Sweet' coming to Israel
Queen of pop confirms extended world tour to include one-night show in Israel this October; organizers still in talks for sponsors
Yaniv Halily Published: 05.09.09, 15:02 / Israel Culture
NEW YORK- After long and agonizing negotiations, pop queen Madonna has finally confirmed she will be stopping in Israel this October as part of her successful Sticky and Sweet Tour.
The singer will put on a one-night performance, but her trip to Israel will last a few days during which she will visit various sites.
According to speculations, Madonna will be landing in Tel Aviv a week before her show and stay in Israel during Yom Kippur.
The 51-year-old artist's visit to Israel was not part of the original plan. The Sticky and Sweet Tour was launched last year and saw jam-packed halls around the world.
After the tour Madonna announced that she planned to start working on a new record, but rising demand from her fans around the world led the singer to extend her tour to European locations this summer.
It should be noted that Madonna has wanted to perform in Israel a number of times in recent years, but due to funding problems, was unable to do so.
Even now, there is a chance that the show may not go through, since Israeli promoter Shuki Weiss and German producer Marek Lieberberg are still looking for commercial sponsors to fund the costly performance.
The two have been holding intensive talks with telecommunications provider Orange, but an agreement is yet to be signed.
The Sticky and Sweet concert includes over two hours of Madonna singing her greatest hits from throughout her career, and a gypsy section with symbols from Judaism displayed on a large screen in the background.

Lady Gaga 'Humbled' By Madonna Coming To Her Show

If you think that Lady Gaga has gotten used to being a pop superstar, think again. No one was as surprised as the New York City native herself to see that the Queen of Pop, Madonna, took some time out of her busy schedule to catch the "Poker Face" singer's show at New York's Terminal 5 on Saturday."I was very humbled that Madonna came to the show," Gaga told MTV News on Monday. "And I had been hearing all week that she was going to come, and I was like, 'Oh, OK,' and I didn't want to talk about it or tell anyone 'cause I thought it was kind that she would want to come at all." What made it even more surprising for Gaga was that she didn't think Madonna had any idea who she was, despite her hit songs and performance on "American Idol" earlier this season. But what really pleased the singer was seeing that Madge made her concert a family night. "I was really excited to see that [Madonna's daughter] Lourdes was there, and that made me really happy 'cause during the show I noticed some beautiful spirit of a girl dancing," she recalled. "And I didn't know who it was and I just kept waving to her." It wasn't until the set was over that she learned that the girl was Madonna's daughter. "Then when the show was over, I said, 'Oh, there's this sweet, young girl up there, and she was dancing her pants off.' And someone said, 'Lourdes had green pants on.' And I was like, 'Oh my God, it was Lourdes and she was dancing.' It really got me going. [Madonna's] a good mom, so it's nice." Gaga will also be happy to hear that the legendary singer slipped out unnoticed. "I was hoping and praying she would get out safely," she said. "If she got spotted she would have been trampled like the queen she is."

MADONNA’S ADOPTION CASE HEARD

Malawi's highest court began deliberating on Madonna's bid to adopt a 3-year-old girl from the southern African country, as a dispute erupted over whether a man trying to stop the proceedings is the girl's father.
Madonna was not at Monday's closed-door hearing at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal, and a ruling may not be announced for several days.
The 50-year-old pop star is fighting a lower court's decision that she cannot adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James because she had not been screened over time by Malawi authorities. The court said the rules were bent when Madonna adopted her son David from Malawi last year.
Madonna's Malawian lawyer Alan Chinula said he was "hopeful" the appeal would succeed, and argued the lower court had relied on outdated law to block the girl's adoption.
Madonna found the girl in 2006 at Kondanani Children's Village, an orphanage in the southern town of Bvumbwe just south of the commercial capital of Blantyre. It was the same year she adopted David, whom she found at another orphanage in the central Mchinji district.

Madonna Loves Lady GaGa

Lady GaGa has another superstar fan — Madonna.
The reigning queen of pop and her daughter, Lourdes, saw the Poker Face singer’s gig at N.Y.C.’s Terminal 5 on Saturday night.
“Madonna loved Gaga’s show,” a source told the New York Daily News. “Especially when Gaga played Future Love on the piano. Lourdes was singing along to every word.”
The source adds that Madonna and Lourdes left halfway through the show, “probably because Gaga went on late, around 1 a.m., and Madge is a good mom!”
GaGa, real name Stefani Germanotta, has previously compared herself to the Material Girl, saying, “We’re both Italian-American women, we both started out in the New York underground scene — and we both became famous when we dyed our hair blonde.
“I think what Madonna and I share is that we’re both fearless, we both have a lot of nerve.”

Madonna's Adoption Appeal Begins in Malawi

Madonna's appeal to adopt a 3-year-old girl started in Malawi's highest court Monday, as a man claiming to be the girl's father said he was fighting for custody of the child.
The 50-year-old singer had filed a petition to adopt Chifundo James, whose first name means "mercy" in Chichewa, the country's national language. Her adoption was denied last month because Madonna did not meet a residency law that requires applicants to have lived in the country for some time before adoption.
She has three other children, including a son, David Banda, whom she adopted from the southern African nation in 2006.
Madonna's appeal to the Malawi Supreme Court in Blantyre, the commercial capital, started as a man claimed paternity of Chifundo, who has lived in an orphanage most of her life. The girl's teenage mother died shortly after childbirth.
The Malawian attorney general's office told CNN that it considers Chifundo's grandmother and uncle, who support the adoption, as her legal guardians.
James Kambewa, the man claiming to be the father, has only been heard of in the media, an official said.
"He will have to undergo paternity tests in order for us to determine whether or not he is indeed the father," said Zione Ntaba, a spokeswoman for Malawi's attorney general. "But as far as today's proceedings go, Madonna's lawyers are the only party making submissions."
Madonna was recently divorced from British filmmaker Guy Ritchie. She has been involved with Malawi for several years and made a documentary, "I Am Because We Are," to highlight poverty as well as AIDS and other diseases devastating children in that country. She also co-founded a nonprofit group, Raising Malawi, which provides programs to help the needy.
It is not clear how long the appeal will take.

Madonna adoption: Paternity dispute erupts

By RAPHAEL TENTHANI,

BLANTYRE, Malawi – As Malawi's highest court prepares to decide on Madonna's bid to adopt a second child from this southern African country, a dispute has erupted over whether a man trying to stop the proceedings is the three-year-old girl's father.
The Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal was to consider the case Monday. Its decision may not be announced for several days and Madonna was not expected at Monday's closed-door hearing in Blantyre, the commercial capital.
A lower court ruled last month that Madonna could not adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James because the pop star did not meet requirements that prospective parents be screened for at least some time in Malawi. The rules were bent when Madonna adopted a son, David, from Malawi last year.
Sunday, 24-year-old James Kambewa told The Associated Press he was Chifundo's father and has sought help from the Malawi Law Society to stop the adoption of the girl, who has been in an orphanage since shortly after birth.
Kambewa, a security guard, acknowledged he has never seen the child he is now claiming, but said he was making efforts to claim custody.
"I may be poor but I think I have what it takes to raise a daughter," he said. "I will fight the adoption."
The brother of the girl's mother, who died shortly after giving birth, told the AP the family does not know Kambewa.
"How can he claim he is the father when he hasn't been around all this time?" said Peter Baneti, who had agreed to the adoption on behalf of the family. "We believe he is just an opportunist."
Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said in a weekend e-mail message she doesn't know if Kambewa is the father.
"All I know is that Mercy has been in an orphanage since the day she was born," Rosenberg said.
Kambewa, in an interview to be aired Monday on CBS' "The Early Show", said he has only seen the girl "in newspapers and TV — not face to face." But he told CBS the girl "is a Malawian — so (I) need her to grow as a Malawian as well with our culture."
On the show, Kambewa wore a necklace bearing the girl's name.
Madonna found the girl at Kondanani Children's Village in the southern town of Bvumbwe, just south of Blantyre, when she first visited Malawi in 2006, the same year she found David at Home of Hope Orphanage in the central border district of Mchinji.
According to court documents, the girl's mother was just 14 when she gave birth, and died a few weeks later. Baneti said with no one to breast-feed the baby, the family decided to place her in an orphanage.
The singer's Malawian lawyer, Alan Chinula, said he was "hopeful" the appeal would succeed. He argues the lower court judge was relying on outdated law. Chinula represented Madonna when she adopted David.
Madonna has founded a charity, Raising Malawi, that helps feed, educate and provide medical care for some of Malawi's more than 1 million orphans, half of whom have lost parents to AIDS.

Top Malawian Judge rumored to dismiss Madonna's case

Queen of Pop Madonna's dreams of adopting 4-year-old Mercy James are to be crushed by a judge tomorrow.
The 50-year-old star is desperately trying to win the custody of Mercy despite being refused adoption rights last month.
However, officials at Malawi's Supreme Court said the African country's top judge, Lovemore Munlo, was certain to dismiss her case when he heads a review panel.
Striking a further blow to Madonna's adoption dreams, Mercy's 24-year-old dad, security guard James Kambewa, yesterday met her maternal family in the hope they will back his custody bid.
He told the Sunday Mirror: "My family has met Mercy's family and we all agree we love the girl. She deserves the best we can give.
"Whatever has happened, we should be allowed to raise our daughter as we wish.
"I hope that we can unite and fight this in the courts to see that it is so. I am Mercy's father and should be allowed to see my daughter."
Last month, her bid was turned down, as she was not a Malawi resident - a requirement that was waived when the singer was allowed to take David Banda to London in 2006.

Madonna and Jesus are "Perfect Couple"

Designer Says Madonna And Her New Boy Toy Are 'Perfect Couple'
Fashion mogul Marc Jacobs was happy to help Jesus Luz stay in the U.S. - because he is adamant Madonna and her model beau are the perfect couple.
The Material Girl has been dating Luz since her split from movie director husband Guy Ritchie last year.
The singer laughed off reports earlier this week that she helped Luz's career by persuading fashion houses to give him modeling contracts.
But Jacobs was more forthcoming - he admits writing a letter to officials in which he backed Luz's bid for a work permit at Madonna's request.
He tells the New York Daily News, “M asked me to write a letter (supporting Luz’s work visa), and I’d do anything to help a friend. Whatever. It’s no big deal - I didn’t know that anybody even knew about it. Jesus is the sweetest guy. I hope he and Madonna are happy.”

SEAN AND MADONNA

Sean Penn Rekindled Friendship With Madonna: The Robin Wright Effect

By Daryl Deino

Madonna and Sean Penn remain good friends - Some are wondering whether or not Sean Penn's rekindled friendship with Madonna is one of the main causes of his legal separation. Sean and Madonna were married from 1985 to 1989 and their relationship was the talk of tabloids everywhere. Some may recall that Sean didn’t like being photographed much and went to prison in August of 1987 after beating a paparazzo a little too hard. The couple finally divorced in January of 1989 after an incident in which Sean reportedly beat Madonna and tied her up. Madonna has forgiven Sean throughout the years. In 1994, when future wife Robin Wright was asked about Madonna, she responded, “I don’t know how he put up with that lady!” Ouch! However, Sean made a surprise appearance to give Madonna an award at the VH1 Fashion Awards in 1995. He has also been known to talk about her in a very positive way throughout the years.
***
"Madonna respects the fact that despite the bitter breakup, Sean doesn’t go around and talk badly about her in the media like so many of her ex-friends and lovers do,” a source from Madonna’s camp tells me. "Sean is one of the very few people she feels she can still trust."
Now, let’s fast forward to 2007. Both Madonna and Sean’s marriages are hitting rock bottom. The two meet up for dinner in November of 2007 while Sean is visiting London. Throughout the next six months, they constantly text each other. Sean even admits that he sent a text message to Madonna before filming a kissing scene with James Franco for his Oscar winning role in Milk. Madonna files for divorce with Guy Richie in October of 2008 and is seen dining with Sean one week later. “Madonna thought nobody was on her side when her divorce was announced. Guy Richie was using the media to publicly humiliate her. Sean comforted her in a way nobody would and assured her that she is going to be alright,” my source continues. Sean, along with Guy Richie, have been comforting Madonna ever since she was denied a second adoption from Malawi and fell off another horse.
***
Robin Wright has been very possessive of Sean and became enraged when finding out he has been in contact with Madonna. Even though she knows there is nothing going on between them sexually, the fact that they talk is just as bad to her. It is thought that a final confrontation about the issue late last week is what has caused Sean to file for legal separation.
I think it’s a wonderful thing that an ex-husband and wife can remain friends, especially since they shared so much together. I can understand Robin becoming angry because it’s obvious that Sean and Madonna still hold something special together. However, as long as they are not sleeping together, I don’t see what the problem is. What do you think?

MADONNA'S JIBE ON TWITTER

Ritchie 'annoyed over Madonna jibe'

Saturday, May 2 2009
By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

Madonna's recent internet outburst has angered her ex-husband Guy Ritchie, according to a report.
The Queen of Pop yesterday hit back at claims that she was planning to leave sons Rocco, eight, and David, three, with Ritchie when she reprises her 'Sticky & Sweet' tour in July.
Writing on Twitter, she asked: "What is this rubbish about me dumping my children off for the summer while I'm on tour? They go where I go."
However, it is believed that Madonna's rebuttal has only served to create further tension with her former partner.
A source close to Ritchie told The Mirror: "He adores spending time with the boys, so if Madonna did want him to look after the children he'd have done it without a second thought."
The insider added: "Guy has been trying to show his support to Madonna, especially over her recent adoption upset in Malawi.
"But it sounds like she's having a dig at him in her internet rant, referring to dumping them on him. They share their time with their children - it isn't a case of them being dumped on anyone."
Madonna and Ritchie were granted a "quickie" divorce in November. They had announced their separation a month earlier.

Madonna and Cyndi Lauper take style notes as Lady Gaga parades latest leotards in concert

Last updated at 1:55 PM on 03rd May 2009

It was a star-studded audience at Lady Gaga's concert in New York last night, with the likes of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper in attendance. But if these images are anything to go by, concert-goers at the city's Terminal 5 venue had not put nearly as much effort into their outfits as the 'Poker Face' star. Madonna, who arrived with an entourage that included toyboy Jesus, daughter Lourdes and fashion photographer Stephen Klein, wore cropped camouflage combat trousers with dated flat pointed slippers.Only a fitted leather jacket offered a glimpse of the 50-year-old's toned physique, but unkempt hair was otherwise in keeping with her scruffy look.

WELCOME TO QUEEN MADGE

I love MADONNA so much! Who doesn't? But with me it is different. Every since I was 5, my sisters had a tape of the Who's That Girl Tour. I spent my childhood watching it and thinking that the Queen is the coolest woman ever.

Since then, I have wholeheartedly followed MADONNA on her journey like any other loyal fan. Watched her ups and downs, her highs and lows, and enjoyed every single minute of it.

I have decided to open this blog as a tribute to her Majesty. She has brought me so much joy through her music and various projects it only seems natural to do this! And I know I will have a blast. I hope you will too.

I will try my best to keep you posted and to check various MADONNA outlets for news and tidbits.

Thank you and always come back!
